We had an amazing audience today to celebrate Veterans' Day. George brought out his teddy bear that sang the "Great American" song.

Then we had several of our club veterans give a brief talk on their involvement.

These were the club members that spoke. I tried my best to capture notes and so if you see any mistakes please let me know and I will correct it ASAP. Charles Foster could not attend but sent his summary via email.
George Sousa - Married his wife Lou in Dec of 1950 and few weeks later in Jan 1951 he joined the army. He then went on to fight the Korean war. His plaque with his name and picture is also displayed at the Mt. Soledad memorial.
Bill Sutton - Was in the Marine Corps, anti-aircraft officer, showed some pictures with Suzanne and his senior officers.
Lou Oberman - He joined Marine Corps, did the boot camp at Parris Island, was involved in Instrument Flight Instructing School, he had the privilege to train Jerry Coleman.
Paul Butler - Was in the Navy from 1979 to 1989, 2 years in flight training, then advanced flight training in Virginia. He flew jets off aircraft carriers for 10 years!
Jon Fish - He joins the Navy and then was later posted on a ship along the Meekong river in Saigon and it was quite peaceful at that time he said.
Malcolm Koll - Served in South Africa 1976.  After boot camp was trained to be a land surveyor and sent to the Angolan border to survey the center line for a road through the Caprivi strip.  Did annual camps thereafter until he emigrated.
Arnold Fernandes - George's friend and a guest today. He served during World War II. He is 94 years old.
Herb Liberman - He was in the reserves for 6 years, when he was active duty in the army, they found out he was a teacher and so he was assigned to teach some of the recruits so they received the minimum qualification certificate for GED. He was also an ambulance driver.
Charles Foster - He was in the Navy 1968-1972.  Was a Lieutenant.  Ran ship overhauls at Charleston (S.C.) Naval Shipyard.  Last job was as Ship Management Officer responsible for the planning and execution of the overhaul and modernization of the USS Sampson (DDG-10), a guided missile destroyer.  This was an experimental compressed overhaul with monthly reporting to the Chief of Naval Operations in D.C.

Ken also made some announcements today of 2 new members! Molly Fleming & Gary Schneiderman. Welcome to DMSB!

This was a celebration of migrating two long-time guests Molly and Greg from sticker badges to the official DMSB red badges :-).
