Sal Mariscal was born in Mexico City. Moved to Hollywood  CA at  a young age. Graduating from Hollywood High in 1960. Sal studied business administration at the Alexander Hamilton Institute and, in the summer of 1962, he went to Mexico for a two-week vacation. He stayed17 years. There in Mexico he learned the value of possessing dual cultural backgrounds and how to use them in international marketing.
In 1978 he returned to the USA. After working at different international companies, to hone his skills, he eventually established  his own International Marketing Company and ran it successfully for over 40 years.

After having a successful cancer treatment and in an effort to give back to society, Sal is now dedicating his time to the Community Cancer Awareness Initiative, whose purpose is to educate and spread the word on how to deal with cancer, the medical system and different treatment options with the aim of having a fantastic, fruitful, happy life without any side effects from cancer therapy.

Sal spoke about life decisions we face when dealing with cancer.  50 % of all men 30% of women face cancer decisions in their lives.  His decision related to prostate cancer and whether to have surgery or radiation treatment or just wait and see.  Possible collateral tissue damage in treating prostate cancer made him look for alternative treatment and he found proton therapy.  Sal had to work through strong insurance restrictions placed on his medical plan until he got the right treatment.  Today he is cancer-free and with no side effects from treatment.

A good example for all of us as to how insurance companies work to control how and what treatment we can receive. He had a good message for all. In the end DMSB Club President Ken Barrett presented the Joshua certificate that represents our club DMSB donating school supplies to schools in Malawi in the name of the speaker.
