Today was our new Club President Ken Barrett's Assembly Day. He kicked off by showing this video from the Rotary's video collections. It was a very touching and timely video reminding members of why we are all in Rotary.

Then we had some surprise guests today to celebrate the nomination of Steve Weitzen as the District Governor for 2020-2021. These guests were the past District Governors and the current District Governor Scott Carr.

Each one gave a 2 minute speech to celebrate Steve's new role in 2020. And finally Bill Sutton also pitched in at the end from our club's side.

Following that we had the "My 3 Things In Life" talk by Diane Huckabee. She said that her primary things in life are - Health, Family & Travel. They have family re-unions every 3 years, which started some 30 years ago. Last July 4th they had a gathering of 20 family members in South Lake Tahoe. It seems she has been losing young family members through these years. Her older brothers were diagnosed with Myotonic Dystrophy also known as Steinert disease, which is an adult version of Muscular Dystrophy. Hence she has always been concerned and every birthday she crosses she celebrates it with a vigor :-). She also enjoys traveling to various part of the world. This is part of her compensation package from work. Her last trip was to Beijing and in November she plans to go to Africa.

She has 2 sons Brandon & Eric and husband is Tom. Apparently Tom & Eric are CPA's and Eric works for Tom. According to Diane Tom panicks a lot and so once Tom & Eric went to a CPA conference and came back all panicked saying that by 2027 only 25% of S&P 500 companies will be left in the market! He wanted to get out of the market soon and Diane jokingly commented that by that time we will be old and out of the market :-).

Ken then announced the best Rotarian of the Month award. Molly Fleming was the winner for her excellent dedication to marketing the Bocce BeerFest event coming up on September 30, 2018!

She and Paul also announced and showed the graphic chart of the progress with sponsorship funds. We have so far $12,800 in various forms of sponsorships. Charlotte also added later that the Auction committee has received over $10,000 in auction items already.

Then we had Malcolm provide an overall Bocce update on the BeerFest competition and how he plans to attract some 75 entries that will provide about 3000 pints of FREE beer for the Bocce competition. At the competition he plans to use coins made from wood as the currency for the beer - called Wooden Nickels. Guests at the event can purchase a 12 oz glass of beer for one wooden nickel. He expects to have several types of beer, such as, West Coast IPA, Wet Hopped IPA, Hazy IPA, Golden / Blond Ale and Classic Saison. He then ended the update with one of his own quotes :-).

Finally Kevin Wilde (surprise guest and past member) requested George Sousa to say a few words about his wife Lou who passed away last week. He was very emotional and said they were married for 68 years. He showed everyone a beautiful picture of Lou taken at Bill Sutton's demotion party last month. That was the last club meeting that she was able to attend. He said she loved Rotary events. George's son Rick also attended as a guest. He came from New Mexico to help George out. Rick also thanked the club for all the support during these tough times.
